I proceeded to delete a ton of large files. I interpreted the error message as having run out of enough local disk space to pre-stage the back process (ie snapshot). It's likely that the tech support gal deleted these files and is likely the reason your back-up is now working. The issue started for me around the time I upgraded from High Sierra to Mojave. For me the issue appears to be caused by the iPhone back-up files (mine are encrypted). I'm having this issue but not sure if my root cause is the same as everyone else. I spent over 20 hours with no results on my own or with other solutions presented here. Perhaps some of you might follow the sequences! If, however, you are not at an expert level and just want a solution, please try the suggestion to call Apple. I obviously do not know what she did to zip through dozens of commands & deletions. In 32 minutes my Time Machine was working properly again and my User file was reduced to 101.4GB with a separate system file of 10.47 GB I have 374.62 GB available space. Remedy: 1) Acknowledge that when Mac OS 10.14 was installed, the Time machine essentially thinks you have a new computer & tries to start over. The User file on my Mac showed 474 GB in it. It had lost my entire backup (or at least was not revealing it.) After a lot of random attempts he WD time Machine drive said "ready for first backup." It indeed backed up only 101.6 GB. After "Mojive" I had 3.1 GB available space and a non-functional Time Machine. Before installing 10.14 I had 72 GB of available space and a fully functional Time Machine with a Western Digital M圜loud wireless external 4.0 TB drive. My installation of Mojave has also caused untold misery to my 500GB SSD MacBook Pro. This is telling me that there is something wrong with macOS Mojave and Time Machine and must be addressed. I have since ran a few terminal commands to delete all my local snapshots and ran Time Machine again and it still failed. I figured maybe it was something wrong with the previous backup so I deleted it and tried again only to have it fail.Īfter all of that it was clear to me that this was not going to work so I formatted the Time Machine partition and tried to start fresh only to have Time Machine fail to backup on a blank partition! I ran Disk Utility again and it had to make a repair to the file system and failed just now while writing this.Īny one having a similar experience and know anything I can do to fix this? Could it be a local snapshot (of which I have 8) that is corrupted and Time Machine is trying to build off that? So I ran First Aid on the partition and it found nothing wrong. I tried again because maybe it was a one off thing, but it failed again. Saying that there was an error copying files. It started writing data but then failed in about the same place every time. After plugging it in and started a backup. Ok, so after updating to Mojave I plugged in my external HDD that I use for mass storage and has a Time Machine partition on it.
